Myxomatosis.
Myxomatosis, a major disease of European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), is enzootic on several continents. The disease is infectious, virulent and contagious. The pathogen is a virus of the family Poxviridae, genus Leporipoxvirus. In its classic form the disease is often fatal, characterised by severe immunosuppression and the appearance of skin pseudotumours (myxomas); it is conducive to eff...
متن کاملInfectious Myxomatosis of Rabbits
The soluble antigen of myxoma is a heat-labile protein which has an isoelectric point near pH 4.5 and is precipitated from half saturated solutions of ammonium sulfate. It can be partially purified by methods of differential precipitation based on variations in the pH and electrolyte concentration. Rabbits receiving the labile, soluble substance of myxoma develop homologous precipitins and thei...
متن کاملInfectious Myxomatosis (sanarelli) in Pregnant Rabbits
Pregnancy in rabbits alters the reactivity of the tissues to the virus of infectious myxomatosis. The livers of pregnant animals with the myxoma have a central acidophilic necrosis. Secondary lesions in the lungs are much more numerous and larger in the pregnant than in the non-gravid animals. In like manner the lesions in the spleen are more extensive in the pregnant rabbit. On the other hand ...
متن کاملControl of rabbit myxomatosis in Poland.
The authors present an epizootiological analysis of myxomatosis in Poland. The biological, physical and chemical properties of virus strains used for the production and control of 'Myxovac M' vaccine are discussed. The long-term stability, safety and efficacy of the vaccine are demonstrated. Laboratory experiments were confirmed in large-scale field observations.
متن کاملA review of myxomatosis among rabbits in France
Myxomatosis is a poxvirus infection which was introduced into France in 1952, and spread throughout Europe, with major repercussions for populations of both wild and domestic rabbits. Since then, the disease has evolved and diverse epidemiological cycles are reported among wild rabbit populations, linked to interaction between vector populations, rabbits and the level of immunity acquired by th...
